Kim has been working hard, training 5 days per week, on top of her swimming on her own to train for the swim portion of a triathlon. The intensity of her training has also picked up, and her strength and endurance gains are evident. Her body composition is also changing, as she's adding muscle and shedding fat.
The biggest aspect of this journey so far is discovering the underlying issues that have surfaced. She has lost 10 lbs since starting the program 3 weeks ago, but it's slow going. She's had blood tests done and recently saw a nutritionist. Her training and diet are right on par, but since she's a woman in her late 40's, her hormones are affecting the rate at which she's losing the weight. Adding elements such has flax seed and other supplements will hopefully help balance her hormones and get her metabolism on track.
As far as her training sessions go, Kim is a machine. Sessions are broken up into full body max effort days, dynamic days, including kettlebell and medicine ball work, and pure conditioning. Her strength gains so far have been impressive, increasing her deadlift and squat, while improving her form. Her endurance levels have also improved. The kettlebell work, concentrating on swings and snatches, have really helped improve her movement patterns for the bigger lifts, as well as improving her explosive strength.
We will continue to tweak the nutrition portion, while continuing the training model she's currently on, progressing in weight and working in more movement based exercises.

The Transformation Begins
Kim Gordon, a member at The Club at Morristown, began her journey to a life-changing transformation today. She was the recipient of over $2,000 worth of training and nutrition consultations to help her reach her fitness goals. Kim's initial weight was 208 lbs. Her goal is to lose 50 lbs. over the next 3 months. She's extremely motivated and one of the hardest workers I know.
The single mother of a daughter with Autism, Kim is motivated to get in shape and set a good example for her daughter. "She needs me in top shape to help her manage school, her difficulty with communicating, her friends, and her daily experiences," says Kim. She is also competing in a leg of a Sprint Triathlon, and has been training for that as well. The triathlon is in memory of her late brother in law, who lost his life to a massive stroke at the age of 54.
Kim will be coming in for training sessions 5 days a week and have bi-weekly nutrition consultations. She will also be participating in Small Group Training classes. This is all on top of her swim sessions to prepare for the triathlon. She was also a participant in the 90 Days til Summer Challenge, in which she lost 15 lbs. With her training stepping up in a big way, Kim is confident she will reach her goal weight. Kim says "I would like to lose 70lbs and I’ve been working at it but I think my body needs me to step it up a few gears! I have lost over 7 inches total since I started working with Matt. I think given the fact that I have so many pounds to lose and being a woman in her mid 40s it’s been a slow go in terms of total weight loss."
Her first session consisted of a metabolic fat burning complex, which I've named "Hurricane Kim." This combination of complex movements gets the heart rate up, fires up the metabolism, and builds strength and endurance. She did 3 sets of 8 to 10 of the following 7 exercises, back to back without rest.
Sumo Deadlift
Kettlebell Snatch
Barbell Push Press
Medicine Ball Slams
Barbell Squat
Overhead Reverse Med Ball Throws
Vertical Med Ball Throws
If you see Kim in the club, please wish her luck on her journey.
